Veera  Health is treating Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a lifelong health condition purported to affect 100M women in India. Our platform combines coaching, remote monitoring, and specialist support for a subscription fee. We are excited to share that Veera Health was chosen to be part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2021 batch.

PCOS has several symptoms, ranging from weight gain to hair loss and depression. Patients can spend up to 10 years and thousands of rupees searching for the right treatment, yet 90% are dissatisfied with existing options. Without proper management, patients can develop serious and expensive issues like infertility, diabetes, and even endometrial cancer.

Sisters, Shashwata (CEO) and Shobhita (COO), decided to start working on Veera Health after the latter struggled with her own PCOS treatment. She spent several years hopping from one doctor to the next, without getting clear directions on how to manage her condition. Over 4000 women shared similar stories with them when they conducted market research on PCOS - many had been stigmatized, and told by doctors to quit their job, get married and have kids before PCOS made them infertile.

Veera Health aims to provide evidence-based, compassionate treatment for chronic women’s health conditions. PCOS patients get continuous, holistic support from a team of specialist doctors and coaches. Compared to several years of failed treatments, our patients see improvement in their PCOS symptoms within a month.

Being part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2021 batch has been an exciting and rewarding part of our company’s journey. Y Combinator is a startup accelerator based in Silicon Valley that has launched successful companies like Airbnb, Stripe, Dropbox, Razorpay, and many more. The program funds and provides hands-on guidance over 3 months to startups from across the world.

We were very fortunate to work with 3 partners at YC—Tim Brady, Surbhi Sarna, and Jared Friedman. They gave us tons of support on topics ranging from building a healthcare business to acquiring users and growing. We learnt from the best minds in the startup world such as the AirBnb founders, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston, and the Collison brothers, founders of Stripe.

Since the batch was completely remote, we were able to focus obsessively on our customers in India, iterating the product through user feedback. At the same time, we were able to tap into Y-Combinator’s powerful network and resources based in Silicon Valley. We connected with inspiring founders in our Y Combinator batch from all across the globe and shared both professional and personal learnings as early-stage companies.

Joining Y Combinator has profoundly improved and accelerated how we’re building Veera. Y Combinator constantly challenges us to deliver a truly superior experience to our customers by solving for their deepest problems, as fast as we can.

We will continue to use evidence-backed science and technology, supported by progressive doctors, to help women with PCOS live happier, healthier lives. Women deserve better healthcare and that’s what Veera Health is here for.
